One of my favorite holidays of the year

Well, it’s that time of year again. The time when the weather turns cooler, leaves start to fall, and everyone’s thoughts turn to trick or treating and ghosts and goblins. It’s a wonderful time of year and one that I have personally always really enjoyed. I like the fact that you can get away with wearing a light jacket and hear the crunch of leaves under your feet.

Yes, the fall of the year is a great time to do so many things including cleaning out your house before winter truly sets in, sealing up your home with caulking and draft protectors to keep out the cold, getting your car in tip-top shape by making sure all the fluids are filled, and prepping your lawn and gardens for the coming year.

All of the above-mentioned items are important to do before the season ends but the best part of all about this time of year is the fun and frivolity that you can have at Halloween. I absolutely love decorating my home at this time of the year. In my mind, Halloween is second only to Christmas in the amount of stuff I decorate my house with to show off the season.

I suppose the reason why I love this time of year so much is that at Halloween you can be something other than your typical, everyday self. I’ve always loved the idea as a kid of dressing up in a store-bought costume and parading up and down the streets with candy bucket or sack in hand to get some of the best goodies ever. I always appreciated the fact that I lived in a small neighborhood where everybody knew everybody else and you could trick-or-treat safely without any problems.

Oh, how the times have changed and the way in which we treat-or-treat has changed. Now, people start taking their children out really early before it even gets dark. Also, sometimes children participate in getting their treats through their local religious organizations by “trunk-or-treating,” an ingenious way to make sure that the children have a safe Halloween experience.

Either way, I just know that I get so excited around this time of year by getting to carve pumpkins, put up lots of neat decorations, and just enjoying seeing the little ones dressed up in their outfits as they come to my door on Halloween night.

Happy Halloween to all…………………………………………………………………………….
